According to Voetbal International, Flekken stated that his team lacked the energy, pressure and sharpness they had been working on in training. "We were continuously out-fought physically, especially in the first ten minutes of both halves," he said in an interview with BILD. "Elversberg showed us how to engage in a real fight."

Flekken admitted that he couldn't explain exactly what went wrong for his team. "We should have put pressure on the opponent and overwhelmed them," he said. "We need to respond quickly to this defeat. In the break, we discussed what needed to improve in the second half... and then we went down 2-0 straight after the restart. It's ironic that I'm laughing now. We fell short on multiple fronts."

Flekken believes that his team was missing the right mentality, energy and game intelligence. "The only positive we can take from this match is that we scored twice towards the end of the game. We didn't even deserve a chance at a draw. I'm not writing off this team yet, as the season is still long, but something needs to change. There's a lot of work to be done."
