Convincing win in season opener

Excelsior delivered the first major result of the new Eredivisie season on Friday evening. The Rotterdam side beat promoted SC Cambuur 4-0 at the Kooi Stadion. That makes Excelsior the first league leaders after the opening fixture.

The match in Leeuwarden officially launched the 2026/27 Eredivisie campaign. The remaining clubs begin their seasons on Saturday and Sunday. For Cambuur, the heavy home defeat marks a difficult return to the Dutch top flight.
