Tadic has been in talks with Ranko Stojic, the technical director of the Serbian Football Association, for several days. Despite this, he has failed to impress at NEC this season, scoring no goals in five league matches and four European games. He was an unused substitute in NEC's 3-0 defeat to Cambuur at the weekend.
Tadic's decision to return to the national team comes two years after he quit following a disagreement with former coach Dragan Stojkovic. He had been critical of Stojkovic's decisions, particularly being left out of matches against England and Denmark at the European Championship in Germany. Tadic has a impressive record, scoring 23 goals and providing 38 assists in 111 international appearances, making him Serbia's record international.
Serbia has a new coach, Veljko Paunovic, who has been in charge since October last year. He is expected to announce his squad on Friday. If Tadic is selected, he will face the Netherlands in two Nations League matches on 27 September and 4 October.
