Daan Rots has taken to the airwaves to defend Wout Weghorst, who he believes is unfairly targeted by the media. Rots, a winger for FC Twente, made these comments in the Goedemorgen Eredivisie programme on ESPN. Voetbalzone has confirmed this report.
Rots pointed out that Weghorst is often at the centre of attention, but still manages to score important goals for his team. He cited the example of Weghorst scoring against FC Groningen, despite the entire stadium being focused on him. Weghorst has also been in good form recently, scoring against ADO Den Haag at the weekend.
Rots drew a comparison with Tolu Arokodare, who was seen praying on the pitch before a match against PSV. Rots suggested that if Weghorst had done the same, he would have been widely criticised.
