Pochettino believes Chelsea should be stripped of their title due to financial rule breaches, which were admitted by the club when the new ownership took over in 2022. The club was fined £10m by the Football Association and £10.75m by the Premier League for multiple violations of the rules during the Roman Abramovich era. Chelsea's deals for players like Eden Hazard, Willian, David Luiz, and Nemanja Matic were among those found to have transgressed.
Pochettino's Spurs team finished seven points behind Chelsea in the 2016-17 season, and he feels that his team should have been awarded the title. "If that [Chelsea's rule-break] was true, then we deserve to be champions that year, for sure," Pochettino said. "The title should be for the team that was second."
The Football Association's punishment for Chelsea's breaches was a suspended two-window transfer ban, which was not enforced. Pochettino believes that the authorities did not go far enough in punishing the club.
