Butez, 31, has been a key player for Como, playing all 38 of their Serie A matches last season as they earned Champions League qualification for the first time in the club's history. He has continued to impress this season, playing in four out of five league matches and Como's first ever Champions League game, which ended in a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig earlier this month.
Zinedine Zidane announced his first squad as head coach of the France national team on Friday, including several Serie A stars such as Mike Maignan, Manu Kone, and Adrien Rabiot. Butez will now join this squad as a replacement for Risser, who has been forced to drop out due to a physical issue.
The France national team will be in action against Turkiye on September 25, against Belgium on September 28, against Italy on October 2, and against Belgium again on October 5. Butez will be looking to make a positive impact in his first call-up to the national team.
