Dortmund's impressive start to the season has seen them move to the summit of the Bundesliga table, with a lengthy international break coming after the conclusion of the weekend's fixtures. The last time Dortmund finished a complete matchday top of the pile was all the way back in May 2023, when BVB led the competition heading into the final game of the season, only to slip up against Mainz, allowing Bayern to snatch the title in dramatic fashion.

Maximilian Beier's winner against Stuttgart means that BVB are the only team in the league that have picked up all 12 points from their first four games, with champions Bayern Munich having been held 0-0 by newly-promoted Schalke on Matchday 2. This is just the fourth time ever that Dortmund have picked up maximum points from their first four Bundesliga games, and it is something that they haven’t achieved since the 2015/16 season when current England head coach Thomas Tuchel was at the helm.

Dortmund's next game is at home to Werder Bremen on 9 October, and not too far away on the horizon lies a potentially mouthwatering Der Klassiker clash in Munich on the night of Halloween.
