According to IJsselmeervogels secretary Gerrit Kok, an assistant trainer from GVVV was involved in the assault. "I've been informed about the cause of the incident," Kok said. "As far as I understand, an assistant trainer from GVVV punched one of our players. The player was lying on the ground with blood, and this is what I've been told. It then escalated greatly."
The police had to intervene to separate supporters before the incident, and fans from both teams were at risk of clashing after the match was abandoned. GVVV's board of directors has expressed regret over the events that unfolded, stating that they take no responsibility for the incident and will take appropriate measures once more details are known.
