Berhalter, 25, and Reyna, 23, are now among the elder statesmen of the team, with 13 uncapped players relying on them for guidance. Reyna said being one of the elder statesmen makes him feel a little bit old, but he's looking forward to getting to know the young players better on and off the field. "It makes me feel a little bit old, but it's nice to have a lot of them here," Reyna told reporters. He added that he's here to help the young players be themselves and enjoy their time with the team.
Berhalter and Reyna are also adjusting to new clubs, with Berhalter playing for Middlesbrough in the English Championship and Reyna playing for Strasbourg in Ligue 1. Berhalter admitted that the attention his side gets has been a change, but he's enjoying the experience. Reyna, who has been playing in Europe since 2019, said he's found the level in Ligue 1 to be very competitive.
The USMNT will face Peru in Orlando on September 26, followed by games against Chile, Mexico, and Canada. Berhalter said those opponents will be what the team is concentrating on, and that it's a lot of work going into these games.
