Anthony Gordon has settled into life at Barcelona quickly, and the 25-cap international has been speaking about the differences between English and Spanish football. "We don't have the same strength, unlike the Spanish, who know how to control matches," Gordon said. "It's not in the English DNA, not in our nature." Gordon, who spent four seasons at Newcastle, has discovered a new environment and philosophy of play at Barcelona, which is diametrically opposed to what he knew in England.
Gordon believes that the English team can improve or take a different direction and focus on their strengths. "We can certainly improve, or maybe take a different direction and really focus on our strong points, such as a physical game, direct football, and counter-attack," he said. "There's no magic formula for winning a football match. We can't spend our time looking at other countries and trying to be like them, because we're not them, we're English. We have our own strengths, which they don't."
Gordon's comments come ahead of England's match against Spain in the League of Nations on Saturday.
