Augsburg's success was largely down to the form of Michael Gregoritsch, who scored both goals in a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. The Austrian striker became Augsburg's record goalscorer with 38 goals, and was named Man of the Match with 76 percent of the vote.
Gregoritsch's first goal came in the 50th minute, after Hennes Behrens combined with Arijon Ibrahimović to slip a reverse pass through for him to poke the ball past Mark Flekken. Five minutes later, he headed in unmarked from a Fabian Rieder corner to put the hosts ahead.
Leverkusen threw on several substitutes in a bid to equalise, but Augsburg's defence held firm until deep into stoppage time, when Patrik Schick's deft flick diverted a low shot from Malik Tillman into the net to make it 2-2.
