Arsenal's Champions League flight was delayed by three hours due to air traffic control issues as they travelled to Italy to face Napoli on Wednesday. According to Arteta, he deliberately disrupted the team's pre-season training and travel plans to prepare them for such situations. He believes that by creating challenges in pre-season, his team can adapt and be ready when unexpected delays occur.
Arteta explained that he wants his players to be able to adapt to disruptions, such as flight cancellations or traffic jams, and use the time to play together, sleep, or spend time together. He also stressed that complaining or using disruptions as an excuse is not helpful. Arteta said, "But don't complain or use it as an excuse because it's not helpful at all."
Arsenal eventually arrived three hours behind their schedule but manager Arteta said his team were ready because of his methods. Arteta said, "So when they happen, we have already experienced them and we are ready." The Spaniard believes that his methods help reduce stress and surprise on matchday when disruptions occur.
Arsenal will face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, with Arteta's methods set to be put to the test.
