Sterling is accused of driving a Lamborghini dangerously and possessing nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas", following an accident in Hampshire, England on 28 May. According to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight police, no other vehicles were involved in the collision and there were no injuries. Sterling is due to appear in court on 15 September.

Sterling, who is currently without a club, has had a distinguished career, playing for Queens Park Rangers, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Feyenoord. He won four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and one League Cup with Manchester City. For the English national team, Sterling has played 82 games and scored 20 goals, participating in campaigns that took England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the final of the 2020 European Championship.

Sterling's current situation remains uncertain, with his court appearance set for 15 September.
