Sebastien Pocognoli, a 39-year-old Belgian, has been identified by the Scottish FA as their top choice to replace Clarke. Pocognoli previously led Union Saint-Gilloise to a first league title in 90 years in 2024-25. He has also had experience in England, playing for West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion during his playing career. Pocognoli earned 13 caps for Belgium and would become just the second foreign boss of the Scotland men's team, following in the footsteps of German Berti Vogts.
Scotland will face a four-game block of fixtures in the Nations League, starting in Slovenia on 26 September. This would mark a significant change for the Scotland national team, which has been led by Clarke for the past seven years. Clarke resigned following the group-stage exit at the World Cup, ending his seven-year tenure.
