Marcelo Portugal Gouvêa, who has been a member of the club's Conselho Deliberativo since 2008, has promised to restructure the club's finances, reform its administration, and promote a culture of responsibility. He also plans to conduct an audit of the club's finances within the first 100 days of his presidency, hire a CEO and other executives, and ensure the club's annual budget is met.
The opposition group, São Paulo De Volta, has also announced its vice-president, Eduardo Alfano Vieira, and its president of the Conselho Deliberativo, Fábio Mariz de Oliveira. The group has the support of several other groups, including Salve o Tricolor Paulista, Novo São Paulo, and Força São Paulo.
The club's current debt exceeds R$ 1 billion, which has doubled since 2021 and is considered a short-term debt. Gouvêa has stated that the situation is "very bad, but reversible," and that the club's future depends on reforming its administration and management.
The next step will be the Assembleia Geral, where the club's members will decide which candidates will be elected to the Conselho Deliberativo. The group with the most conselheiros will likely have an advantage in the election for the club's presidency.
