Rogelio Funes Mori, a historical top scorer of Monterrey with 168 goals in 328 games, has signed an 18-month contract with Universidad de Concepción. The Argentine-Mexican forward began his career at River Plate, where he won the Primera Nacional 2011-12 title. He then moved to Europe, playing for Benfica in Portugal, where he won the Primeira Liga 2013-14, the Copa de Portugal 2014, and the Copa de la Liga de Portugal 2013-14.
Funes Mori's most successful period was in Mexico, where he played for Monterrey for nearly a decade, accumulating several titles, including the Copa MX Apertura 2017-18, the Copa MX 2019-20, the Apertura 2019-20, and two Concacaf Champions League titles in 2018-19 and 2020-21. He also played for Eskisehirspor in Turkey, Pumas UNAM, and León, and represented the Argentina U-juvenil national team and the Mexico national team in the 2022 World Cup.
The arrival of Funes Mori comes at a challenging time for Universidad de Concepción, who are currently 14th in the Chilean league with 19 points, just two above the relegation zone. The club's main objective for the second half of the year will be to avoid relegation and secure their place in the league.
