Portugal is currently leading the Liga das Nações Group A4, and a win against Norway will secure their first place in the group. The match comes after a crisis between Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus and star player Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the national team last Wednesday due to dissatisfaction with being benched.
Globo Esporte Futebol reports that despite the crisis behind the scenes, Portugal is performing well on the pitch, having won all three of their Liga das Nações matches so far. A win against Norway would allow Portugal to secure first place in the group, pending the outcome of the other match in the group, between Denmark and Wales.
In a pre-match press conference, coach Jorge Jesus attempted to avoid discussing Cristiano Ronaldo, focusing instead on the team's collective spirit. When asked about the reception he expects from the local fans at the Estádio do Dragão, Jesus emphasized the importance of the team's unity.
Norway, who started the Liga das Nações well by beating Denmark, has since lost to Portugal and Wales. The Norwegian team, who reached the quarterfinals in the World Cup, will be looking to surprise Portugal with their goal-scoring forward Erling Haaland.
The match will be arbitrated by Maurizio Mariani from Italy.
