The new rules, which include quicker action against time-wasting and a one-minute delay for players after a treatment, resulted in faster resumption of games during the World Cup. However, the effect on actual playing time was largely lost due to long drink breaks, for which insufficient extra time was added. In the Eredivisie, most games were not interrupted, allowing the impact of the new rules on actual playing time to become clear.

According to Opta data, the percentage of actual playing time in the Eredivisie has increased from around 59% in the past five seasons to nearly 61.5% in the first two months of this season. Games are currently lasting around a minute less, while actual playing time has increased by over three minutes.
