NEC has signed Gabriel Brás, a 22-year-old Portuguese defender, on a one-year loan from FC Porto. Brás will wear the number 73 jersey for NEC. The defender is the captain of Jong Portugal, the youth team of the Portuguese national team. Brás can play on both the right and in the centre, providing NEC with more options in the defensive line.

Trainer Dick Schreuder has stated that the team needs multiple additional defenders, and this move is part of NEC's efforts to strengthen their team. VoetbalPrimeur reports that NEC is close to signing Almugera Kabar from Borussia Dortmund, which would further boost their defensive line. NEC has already presented goalkeeper Nikolas Polster, and Brás is the second new signing for the team.

The loan deal for Brás includes an option to buy him permanently, giving NEC the possibility to make the move permanent.
