Minister van Weel has reacted to the incidents at Cambuur - Feyenoord, stating that something needs to be done about the problem with fireworks in stadiums. According to Van Weel, football clubs need to do more to prevent such incidents. "If you're not doing something right in that access control, then this kind of hooliganism can be very creative in smuggling fireworks in," he said, as quoted by NU.nl. The minister believes that the control measures need to be adjusted to prevent such incidents.
Van Weel will soon meet with the KNVB to discuss the issue, which he considers "very prominent" on the agenda. He is unsure what the solution is, but believes that something needs to be done about the problem. "Is it a capacity issue? Is it too much creativity? I don't know, but something needs to be done," he concluded.
