Van Polen hopes that Meerdink will become a more consistent player, capable of making a decisive impact over a longer period. "Iedereen ziet dat hij fantastisch kan voetballen, maar ik wil zien dat hij over een langere periode en in meerdere wedstrijden beslissend kan zijn," he says. Van Polen also believes that Meerdink needs to become more dominant and less invisible on the pitch.
Meerdink's return to AZ will be put to the test immediately, as the club faces Feyenoord in De Kuip on Saturday. Van Polen will be keeping a close eye on Meerdink's performance. "Ik ga wel extra op hem letten," he says.
