Marink Reedijk, the 34-year-old Dutch coach who led SK Beveren to promotion in the Jupiler Pro League last season, has been appointed as the new trainer of Hibernian. The Scottish club announced the appointment via their official channels. Reedijk's team at SK Beveren was unscathed, winning the championship without losing a single game. He decided to leave the club at the end of the season, with Tim Bakens taking over as his replacement.
Reedijk's experience in the youth departments of several top clubs, including Ajax and Anderlecht, will likely be valuable assets for Hibernian. He also worked as an assistant coach at KSV Roeselare and Vitesse. The Dutch coach was previously linked to a position at Royal Antwerp, but Marc Overmars chose Marvin Compper instead.
Hibernian has had a difficult start to the season, with seven points from seven games in the Scottish Premiership. The club has lost four games so far and is currently sitting in 10th place. Last season, Hibernian finished fifth in the league and qualified for the Conference League, but were eliminated by KAA Gent in the first round.
Hibernian will face St Johnstone in their next Scottish Premiership match on 30 September 2023.
