Mamadou Sarr is on loan from Chelsea, where he was not part of the plans. Real Sociedad's president Jokin Aperribay and director of football Erik Bretos chose Sarr to reinforce the club's defence after other attempts to sign players failed. The last attempt was to sign Brazilian centre-back Jonathan Jesus, but it did not come to fruition.

Sarr's arrival is a result of Real Sociedad's efforts to strengthen their defence. The club had previously tried to sign other players, but were unsuccessful. With Sarr's loan from Chelsea, Real Sociedad are hoping to improve their defensive line for the upcoming season.

If Sarr passes the medical examination, he will sign a new contract with Real Sociedad and be announced as the club's first signing for the 2026-27 season.
