Cahuzac, a former assistant to Toppmöller, has a close connection to the club, having played for them for three seasons and worked under Franck Haise as an assistant in the 2022-23 campaign. His first game in charge was a 2-1 defeat to Monaco, which did not begin well, but Cahuzac changed tactics at the interval, which helped Lens to a deserved equaliser.
Lens finished second in Ligue 1 last season and won the Coupe de France, but their current form has been disappointing. The club's sporting director, Jean-Louis Leca, had said they were "not a Champions League club" and that an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1 would represent success. However, Toppmöller's first game in charge brought silverware as Lens beat PSG in the Trophée des Champions, and his side took all three points away to Slavia Prague in their first Champions League game.
Cahuzac's tenure begins with a valiant 2-1 defeat, and the 41-year-old was a former player at Lens, having finished his playing career there before working as an assistant. He left Lorient, where he had been Olivier Pantaloni's assistant, at the end of last season to return to Lens.
