Kambwala's move to Como marks a significant step in his career, having previously played for Manchester United and Villarreal. The 20-year-old defender spent four years on United's books, making 10 appearances across all competitions, including eight in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag during the 2023-24 season. He then joined Villarreal at the end of that season, with the Yellow Submarine agreeing to pay an initial fee of €5.5m in a total package that could rise to €11.5m.
Como's head coach Cesc Fabregas has welcomed Kambwala to the club, praising his qualities as a defender. "Willy is a young defender with strong qualities," Fabregas said. Kambwala's loan deal with Como runs until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option to make the move permanent at a cost of €10m. If the option is exercised, Kambwala will sign a contract until the summer of 2031.
