José Pekerman's tenure as Venezuela's national team coach did not go as planned. With only 10 games directed between November 2021 and March 2023, the Argentine coach left the Vinotinto in a bad state. His departure led to a massive legal dispute, which Pekerman eventually won in court. However, the battle is far from over.
Pekerman claimed a breach of confidentiality clause by the Venezuelan Football Federation. As a result, he demanded an additional $1 million at the start of this year. This time, the FIFA decision was in favour of the Vinotinto, but Pekerman is not giving up. He has now appealed the decision, with a CAS hearing scheduled for 16 October.
The Venezuelan Football Federation paid a hefty price for Pekerman's departure, with a final cost of $7 million, including an indemnity and subsequent claims. The FVF had already paid Pekerman over $3 million in April 2025, following his court victory.
