Gilvan joined Flamengo in 2014 and had an interesting start. In his first game against León, Flamengo was eliminated from the Conmebol Libertadores. However, the team soon experienced a moment of relief in the Campeonato Carioca final against Vasco, where Márcio Araújo scored the winning goal in the second half.
Gilvan captured an iconic image from the 2019 Conmebol Libertadores final – the Flamengo bus heading to the final against River Plate. He was working for Jornal O Dia at the time but managed to capture the perfect moment. The image features the Flamengo bus with the community in the background.
Gilvan also captured the goal scored by Gabigol against Athletico-PR in the 2022 Conmebol Libertadores final. He managed to get the shot at the right moment, despite using a slower camera than the one he uses today. The goal was a significant moment in the final.
In 2025, Gilvan captured the title-winning goal scored by Danilo against Palmeiras. He gifted the photo to Danilo, who holds a special place in his heart. The photo is a reminder of the emotions and experiences Gilvan had while capturing the moment.
Gilvan has continued to work with Flamengo, capturing another iconic moment in the 2025 Conmebol Libertadores final. He took a photo of Andreas Pereira in the same final, where Danilo scored the goal that secured the title.
