López's arrival at Feyenoord provides the desired reinforcement for the left-back position, a spot that has been a concern for the club this summer. Jordan Bos is not expected to return from injury before the winter break, and Gijs Smal has been struggling with physical issues, forcing trainer Giovanni van Bronckhorst to use centre-back Mika Mármol as a makeshift left-back. López's signing gives van Bronckhorst a natural option for the position.

López has over 100 La Liga appearances under his belt and previously played for Real Oviedo on loan. He was a youth product of Deportivo Alavés and made the move to Real Sociedad in the summer of 2024. The Spaniard will be a valuable addition to Feyenoord's squad, providing competition and depth to the left-back position.

Feyenoord can exercise the option to buy López for 7 million euros at the end of the loan period, with the player still under contract with Real Sociedad until mid-2030.
