The Nucleus of Innovation in Sports Science was created in the base categories of the Corinthians and has developed a methodology of work in the base, which now seeks evaluation in scientific publications. This innovation laboratory is transforming the routine of the base categories into a laboratory for the formation of football players. The professionals of the Nucleus of Innovation in Sports Science created guidelines for the development of physical, technical, and psychological skills of the players from the first categories to the professional football.
The document unites methods of work from different areas, such as physical preparation, nutrition, physiology, and dentistry, and establishes parameters for the development of players. The idea is to maintain a unique methodology in all the base categories so that the club has knowledge of all the information of the players during their formation as athletes. The Corinthians is working with a team of professionals, including Arthur Plácido, Michael de Paula, and Walmir Cruz, who are responsible for developing knowledge in the field of sports science.
The club's base categories are divided into two locations: Parque São Jorge and CT da base. The players are subjected to various data collections, such as GPS tracking, strength assessments, and medical exams. This information is used to create individualized work for each player to improve their strength, agility, or other characteristics. The results of this scientific approach are evident in the club's medical department, where the number of muscle injuries has decreased significantly.
The Nucleus of Innovation in Sports Science has already submitted six articles to international scientific journals of high impact and has another ten in production. The first article compared the isometric strength of different age groups and positions on the field, revealing a significant difference in strength every two years. This finding is of great interest to the scientific community, as most studies are conducted with amateur or moderately skilled athletes. The publications will serve as a reference for other clubs to adopt similar methods and will position the Corinthians as a leader in sports science and research.
