Federico Higuaín, the brother of Gonzalo Higuaín, had assumed the role of coach in January last year. However, his tenure was cut short after an incident during a MLS NEXT Pro match. According to the PSRA, Higuaín had taken the referee's hand and refused to let go after she asked him to stop three times. The organisation also stated that Higuaín made a sexist comment, saying "No lo olvides, este es un juego de hombres" ("No olvides que este es un juego de hombres" in the original Spanish, which translates to "Don't forget this is a game of men"). The PSRA described the incident as "two deliberate acts of physical abuse and sexism against a referee" and argued that the two-game suspension Higuaín received was too lenient. The U.S. Soccer regulations contemplate a minimum of three games for a "strong grip" and for acts of discrimination. The PSRA questioned the leniency of the suspension, stating that it did not meet the minimum standards. As a result, Higuaín has left his position as coach of the Crew 2.
