Morgan Rogers scored the opening goal for Chelsea after just 10 minutes, tapping in a cross from Pedro Neto. However, Sociedad equalised just before half-time through Jon Mikel Aramburu's volley from the edge of the penalty area. Joao Pedro restored Chelsea's lead with a close-range header shortly after the break, before adding a third late on to seal victory.
Chelsea's players performed well in Xabi Alonso's first game at Stamford Bridge, with several players impressing in their roles. Pedro Neto was impressive in his attacking play, causing Sociedad plenty of problems with his dribbling. Joao Pedro was Chelsea's standout performer in pre-season, scoring eight goals, and he continued his impressive form with two goals in this match.
The match also saw Enzo Fernandez, who was linked with a move away from the club, make an appearance off the bench. Despite being booed by sections of the crowd, Fernandez used the ball well under pressure and hit a late shot just over the bar.
The win over Real Sociedad will give Chelsea confidence ahead of the new season, but the real test will come when the Premier League campaign begins. Chelsea are set to keep Enzo Fernandez after no club elected to reach their £120m valuation before Friday's deadline.
