Carolina Reyna's inclusion in the 21-player roster makes her and her brother the first brother-sister duo to represent the U.S. at a U17 World Cup. Reyna plays club soccer in Austin, Texas, and is one of six forwards on the team. This move continues the family tradition of representing the United States, with their father Claudio and mother Danielle both playing for the senior national teams.
Their father Claudio played in the U16 tournament in 1989 and captained the senior team, playing in four senior World Cups. Gio was part of the 2022 and 2026 senior World Cup teams, and the 23-year-old now plays for French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg after a summer move. Danielle earned six caps for the senior USWNT, all in 1993.
The Reyna family became the first to have three members play for senior U.S. national teams when Gio made his senior USMNT debut in 2020. A brother-sister duo is a first at this level for the United States, with three pairs of sisters having represented the senior USWNT. Crinion hopes to lead the USWNT to a U17 World Cup title for the first time, with the United States never finishing better than runners-up at the U17 level.
The U.S. will play Samoa, Kenya, and China in the group stage beginning on Oct. 19. The USWNT roster features one professional player, Meila Brewer, who recently left the NWSL's Kansas City Current by mutual termination and signed with the USL Super League's Dallas Trinity.
