The Brazilian clubs' economic power, combined with the organization of Palmeiras and Flamengo, is likely to increase the imbalance in the competition. Even giants like Boca Juniors and River Plate, with economic potential superior to most clubs on the continent, are struggling to maintain competitive teams, as they spend incorrectly and are poorly managed.
The Flamengo's turn over River Plate in 2019 is seen as the symbolic moment when Brazilian hegemony began. Since 2018, Brazilian football has qualified at least two teams among the four semifinalists in nine editions.
