The Botafogo team was met with protests from the Fúria Jovem fan organization at the Rio airport, according to Globo Esporte Futebol. The protests were due to the team's recent losses, including a 6-1 defeat to Cienciano in the Copa Sul-Americana and a 1-0 defeat to Vitória in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The team's coach, Franclim Carvalho, was the main target of the protests. Initially, only the team's leaders, including Vitinho, Marçal, Allan, and Alex Telles, met with the fans. The rest of the team eventually joined the meeting. The fans demanded the immediate dismissal of Franclim Carvalho and threatened to stage further protests at the team's home games. The team left the airport under heavy security, with the club having anticipated the protests and using a disguised bus to transport the players.

The protests were a reaction to the team's recent poor performances, particularly the 6-1 defeat to Cienciano in the Copa Sul-Americana. The team will face Cienciano again in the Copa Sul-Americana on August 19.
