The news comes as part of a series of changes within the club since their last match against Flamengo in March. Botafogo has had two coaching changes, with Martín Anselmi being fired after a 3-0 loss to Flamengo. Rodrigo Bellão took over as interim coach before Franclim Carvalho's arrival.
Four players from the starting lineup in that match are no longer with the club, including Raul, Bastos, Barboza, and Newton. Matheus Martins, who was part of that lineup, is now close to joining Dínamo Moscou in Russia.
Danilo, who was a key player for the Brazilian national team and played in the World Cup, has fallen out of favour with the fans, along with Vitinho, who has been included in Carlo Ancelotti's pre-list.
The current Botafogo lineup features Gabriel Batista, Vitinho, Ferraresi, Justino, and Alex Telles, with Huguinho, Medina, Danilo, and Montoro in midfield. The team will face Flamengo again on Sunday at the Maracanã.
