Borussia Mönchengladbach has reacquired Ko Itakura from Ajax for 3.5 million euros, according to a report. The 25-year-old centre-back had a difficult time at Ajax, as trainer Eugen Polanski revealed. Polanski described Itakura as "wanhopig" (desperate) to return to Mönchengladbach, where he will now be integrated into the system and given playing time.
Polanski told BILD that Itakura had been struggling at Ajax, and that the circumstances of the transfer were such that Mönchengladbach might not have had a chance to sign him otherwise. The trainer is confident that Itakura's experience and class will help him overcome his recent difficulties and make a positive impact at the club.
Itakura's return to Mönchengladbach could come as soon as this Sunday, when the Bundesliga club faces Schott Mainz in the DFB Pokal.
