Injury Update
Barcelona's Roony Bardghji has suffered a torn ACL in training, according to the club. The 20-year-old Sweden international will require surgery in the coming days, which will leave him sidelined for several months. This is the second time Bardghji has sustained the injury, having previously torn the ACL in the same knee while still a player at Copenhagen in 2024.
Transfer Plans on Hold
The injury rules out the possibility of Bardghji leaving Barcelona before the transfer window closes on September 1. Coach Hansi Flick had communicated to Bardghji that he should look for a new club this summer, as minutes would be hard to come by at Barça in the upcoming campaign. However, Bardghji was left out of the squad for last Saturday's friendlies against Nottingham Forest and Udinese to avoid getting injured before moving on.
Previous Season Performance
Bardghji signed for Barcelona in 2025 and made 28 appearances for the club last season, scoring two goals. However, the majority of his outings were off the bench, and his minutes were expected to be further reduced in the upcoming campaign following the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
Transfer Enquiries
Barça had fielded enquiries about Bardghji's availability from across Europe, including from the Premier League. Talks were expected to accelerate following Flick's conversation with the player. However, the injury has put a hold on any potential transfer plans for Bardghji.
Career Background
Bardghji joined Barcelona in a deal worth around €2m from Copenhagen last summer. He will now focus on his recovery and rehabilitation, with a view to returning to action in the near future.
