Lazio hired Sutalo on a loan deal with an option to buy for 7.5 million euros, which can increase to a value between 12 and 15 million euros due to bonuses. Sutalo was signed by Ajax for 22 million euros in the summer of 2023 and has played 108 official matches for the club's first team. The 26-year-old defender had a difficult start in the Netherlands but improved under Francesco Farioli.

Sutalo's departure marks the end of an era for Ajax, as he was one of the last signings made by former technical director Sven Mislintat. He will now join his former teammate Kenneth Taylor at Lazio, where he will look to make a name for himself in the Italian league. Sutalo expressed his gratitude for his time at the club and wished his teammates the best for the upcoming season in a farewell message on Instagram. He also became a member of Ajax's Club van 100, a prestigious group of players who have made over 100 appearances for the club.

Anton Gaaei remains the only other Mislintat signing still in Ajax's squad, following the departures of Chuba Akpom, Sivert Mannsverk, and Branco van den Boomen earlier this summer.
